The Daibutsu statue in Kamakura, Japan.

I’m always nostalgic when I remember Japan. I spent two years there, in the Tokyo suburbs – two of the best years in my life. One place I liked very much, is the Kotoku-in temple in Kamakura, on the seaside, two hours by train from Tokyo. This place is renowned for its monumental bronze statue of Buddha, the Daibutsu.

Of course the temple can be overcrowded as it’s one of the most iconic place of Japan. But if you can manage to be there early in the day, or just before the doors close, then it’s possible to enjoy the statue for yourself. And then it can be the most peaceful place on Earth…
